ok here is my problem... i thik my graphics card is creating problems for my computor.
i think that it is making my computor do physical memory dumps and crashing my computor. also it seems that the crad is just not liked in general by games and other windows programs
my computor is a hewlett-packard pavilion with an amd athalon 2000+
and my graphics card is a NVIDIA MX 5400 (or 540 i can't remember but im sure it is 5400)

Try memtest86 and prime95

http://memtest86.com/memtest86-3.2.iso.zip

Download the ISO burn it onto a CD and boot from it. Let it run for about 8 hours.

Another great way to test your system is Knoppix:

http://www.kernel.org/pub/dist/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V4.0.2CD-2005-09-23-EN.iso 700MB CD

or

http://www.kernel.org/pub/dist/knoppix/knoppix-dvd/KNOPPIX_V4.0.2DVD-2005-09-23-EN.iso 3.1GB DVD

Knoppix is huge but worth it!

You can also pick up a disk on ebay for $1-$5 or I can send you one @ cost.

Good Luck!

There is no MX 5400 but there is a GeForce 2 MX400 and a GeForce 2 MX4000.

Your system RAM, PSU, motherboard or VGA could be causing the crashes which is why I suggested trying memtest, prime95 and knoppix.

Your system might also be overheating.

Check your voltages and temperatures with speedfan, mbm5, CPU-Z or a similar program or in the BIOS.

theres a mx in every geforce family apart from 6 series and 7.

the man is probably correct about the graphics card he has, plus Hewlett packard gets OEM models only available to them, and so when this HP was brought its spec is probably what he stated.

Please research your replys before you reply to questions thank you.

Bob your computer is:

1: your memory has become currupt so go over to majorgeeks.com and run a memtest from there downloads section

2: overheating CPU.

I have seen this problem before, I dont think it has anything to do with your graphics card.

Goodluck

IIRC the 5xxx series did not have an MX.

The was a GeForce 2 MX/MX200/MX400

GeForce 4 MX440, etc

There was no MX in the TNT TNT2 and Vanta generations

http://nvidia.com/page/geforce256.html No MX in the early GeForce generation

http://nvidia.com/page/geforce2.html there was a GeForce2 MX series (MX, MX200, MX400)

http://nvidia.com/page/geforce3.html I do not see MX anywhere

http://nvidia.com/page/geforce4.html there are some MX models as you can see here: http://nvidia.com/page/geforce4mx.html

http://nvidia.com/page/fx_5200.html NO MX

6 and 7 have no MX.

I do not recall there being a 5400 anything but I may be wrong.

A search of the nVidia website yields NO hits for MX 5400 or 5400.

I did do some research before I posted above.

Given the information we have at hand I would dare speculate the card in question might be a GeForce2 MX/MX200/MX400 or a GeForce4 MX 420, 440 or 460 or MX4000.
