Hello everyone , I've recently found an old audio card (http://support.creative.com/Downloads/welcome.aspx)
And its been having some issues , the audio card isnt detected by my computer , and trying to plug in headphones causes a hissing sound , ontop of that i do not know what each of the connectors are , meaning which are center/sub , front left/right , back left/right etc..
if someone could help me with this i would really apriciate it !

Solution
If the headset has 3 x 3.5mm jacks like in the image, use 5.1.

Not all programs will provide 5.1(6 channel). You can use CMSS-3D(try playing with the settings to find if or what you like) to upmix 2 channel audio while leaving 5.1 untouched(I do not think you will come across 4 channel audio).
dont the sockets have a colour coding?
Pink: Mic in.
Blue: Line in.
Green: Front speakers out.
Black (or dark blue on some older boards): Rear speakers out.
Orange: Center/subwoofer out.
Gray: Middle speakers out.
Taken from the web.

It may be worth trying to disable the onboard audio.

Some X-fi Models detected as HD audio and while this allows basic drivers under newer versions of Windows. It may confuse motherboards.

I know my X-fi Titanium(the PCI-e one) can be detected as HD audio to use basic Windows drivers.

Now it seems like the headset is all well but my external microphone isnt being picked up , it just says not plugged in.

I didnt find a pink connection

Try the blue jack. I think you will have to change a setting for the jack to be mic instead of line in.

This is how it looks on my card(in entertainment mode)
