I will recommend 2xSapphire Dual-X R9 280 in crossfire. If we see, R9 280 is much more better than R9 270x. Hence 2xR9 280 will definitely better than 2xR9 270x. Also 2xR9 280 will be better than only one R9 290 or R9 290x. Crossfire always gives great results. Get that, you will get best results.

Two Sapphire Dual-X R9 280 in Corssfire can perform better than single R9 290x but they will generate more heat, draw more power consumption and cause problem in some games also. so it is better to have a single Gpu

Get a r9 290x (Recommended)

Dual-card setups come with a lot of problems, get the 290x.

It is probably best to avoid dual GPU setups if you can get a single GPU that's capable of playing the games you want to play. (microstuttering, odd driver issues, etc.)

As such, I would recommend the R9 290x.
