Am looking into a new graphics card due to my old one dying a horrible death, these two are about perfect for my price range but i cant find any comparisons.

heres the details of the two:

Saphire X1800 GTO2 at ebuyer

£169.98 inc VAT

This looks like a decent card its basically an x1800xl, has the full set of 16 pipelines unlike the standard GTO, and 512mb ram rather than 256, apparently these can be flashed to XT standard easily so they look kinda sexy.

BFG 7900GT OC, also ebuyer

£181.88 inc VAT

This looks like a decent card too but is only 256mb (though i know thats far from all that matters and the card has decent reviews)

Just want to know which is going to be the better performer, have pretty much settled on one of these two, but leaning towards the ati as my current 6600 has given me nothing but trouble. Any other suggestions would have to be extremely close to these prices.

Thanks in advance for the sharing of your collective uber graphics knowledge :D

Hey Prozac,

I think even after a BIOS flash, the GTO2 would probably be slower.

The GTO2 is a rebadged X1800 XL, slow memory... more in the performance range of the 7800 GT. The 7900 GT would probably be a better card no matter what.

So thats what the x1800GTO2 was, a rebadged x1800xl. Well its new to me now. I would go with the 7900GT though. Getting a more bang for your buck for just a bit more than the x1800GTO2.

Unless you can flash it into a X1800XT.

In this case I would go for the 7900GT, because it's better stock, and that what I prefer. That's my viewpoint.

The Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 is only £148 at overclockers.

Also I just bought the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 GT 256MB GDDR3 for £140 for my brothers new system.

Just some more options, IMHO ebuyer has gone way down hill with its stock and prices. I used to use them all the time but now they just dont have the selection of other places.

I just picked one of these up (haven't flashed the bios yet) and from everything I've read and seen hands on, this is actually a X1800XT 512MB that didn't quite cut it; I've been able to OC mine using ATItool to 620 core clock, and 610 memory on water (swiftech MCW60 with copper BGA ramsinks). It uses GDDR3 1.2ns memory, but doesn't seem to have the headroom you'd expect. I've read on a couple of other forums that it needs to be flashed using an X1800XT PE bios to get 700+ out of the memory clock.

For the money (~$220) I'm pretty satisfied, though I'm not sure how it would stack up against a 7900gt
