Just got a X1800XT 512 Sapphire, and when I boot up the fan is really loud and blowing hard but then it drops down in level after about 10 seconds and only blows lightly with little noise. I thought this might have been due to my 420W powersupply so I bought a 550W and it still does it.... Is this normal or is there something that I am missing?
Thanks in advance!

yea, its normal. I have a x1800xl and it does the same thing. When you first turn the power on the thing blows like hell until the board has a chance to initialize itself and make sure everything is A OK, then it will cycle the power down to keep from annoying the crap out of you. If you notice when you are playing a game, the fan will cycle back and forth between high speed and low speed modes. Its all normal.

Also, when your PC starts, the increase in temp on the GPU from 20C ambient with volts applied (remember, at startup the GPU almost runs 100%) is countered by the high fan speed. This ensures that you don't have a 20C to 50C spike, that surely will kill any electronics over time.
