Hi guys, just built my first system and having proper problems with the x1900xt, I'm currently using the asus a8r32-mvp deluxe board but have also tried it with a asus a8r-mvp.

I've managed to get the system up and running with a proper old pci card with a massive 4mb of memory!!! System is running fine, however the system refuses to boot with the xt in place, this is the same on both boards. When the system is powered up both of the lights on the card light up for a few seconds but then go out, the fan stays at full speed aswell. I'm not sure if i've used the correct cable to connect or not, when i first tried it i was using a cable supplied with my PSU, it was a pci cable reccommended for xfire and sti, but have also tried connecting it with the supplied 4 pin cable and tried to connect it with a standard molex as well as trying it with a vga cable. Like i say this is the same on both boards.

Finally i have tried it in both pci-x slots on the motherboard, although i don't know which is the master slot, as it doesn't actually tell you in the manual which one is the master, it just shows it with the crossfire set-up.

Please help, i've got this fantastic system here, and the best i can get out of it is running firefox!!!

your problem is very simple my friend.......

you either have a defective power source.......or simply has not have enough amperage on the 12Vrail.....

also the video card could be faulty but there is a small chance...

the cable you are using ...the pci-express connector..is ok....it has 6 pin 3 for gnd 3 for 12 volts......

it won`t matter which pici-express connector you will use...usually use the upper one.......the crossfire cables are not used .......

repply back if you checked the psu and the pci-express settings in bios ..... make sure it has 16 lanes...usualy there are 2x8 lanes......
also read the manual there might be same additional information in there...

good luck

btw it does matter which slot you use. i have the A8r and you have to use the blue one. you also have to have the small card in the black one. what lights are you talking about. make sure it is seated properly. really push it in till you are sure it is ine place. do not be rough but be firm. you do not need the molex connector on the mobo connected unless you are using C/F. don't worry and be patient. your PSU has more than enough power to handle it.

one small detail their are no such things as pci-x slots on that mobo. please refer to them as pci-e so as not to confuse people.

Small black card?

I got a A8R32-MVP, ain't got a black card and my XT is working properly tho.

..listen up man ...our friend has a problem it needs help.......

he needs to check the components........you don`t have to explain me believe me ...explain to him...

sorry...i`m checking it now......i have it in my stock...i`m putting a pci-express card in it now.......

the ideea that occured to me is that it has a defective component....the card should start anyway on any situation.....16 lane ..8 lanes no lane 😀

i agreee the psu is more than enough.....but believe my friend ...and i hope this is not the case ..i`ve seen hundreds of them defective..or not able to handle load....

everyone has the right to have an opinion..if you don`t like it you don`t consider it ... i hope it was that easy...just press the button and everything works perfectly...

the last board i`ve assembled.....not sure the serial but it was an asus...worked on both pci-express slots.......

i`m checking this one now........i`ll be back..

rellax man .... rellax........here it is man.....

i`ve installed it ..i`ve put an x550 hm on the black pci-express...and surprised it worked.......i`m not going to test it on the other slot ..cause i`m lazy (i bet is working on blue connector too)..........the molex connector on the card.....near pci-express black connector..it saids here ..you have to connect it when you plug 20 pin atx connector....i don`t have time to check it ......because it worked without it ....

so conclusion......x550hm (an i suppose any pci-express video card) worked with a8r-mvp on the black connector.....

we need to help our friend here ... so check the molex connector..
what psu are you using atx 24 pin or atx 20 pin .....as far as i read in that manual it matters wheter you connect the molex connector or not...

ok i`m out ...i have to finish same work in here ....

so slothmeister...don`t be so jumpy...first you make sure then you offend others.......sorry if i offended you ...no intention i must admit i was a little jumpy in the first place.....but we can actualy help our friend who realy need help..there are a lot of money in there

to our friend ...who asked for help.....CHECK THE MANUAL..... 😀 ..unless you have a faulty component it must work.........i hope it works ...good luck...

i have to mention ....that my little experiment i`ve just done 5 min ago....is not necesary the answer for our problem......there are different versions of boards........same versions may work differently

i had an unpleasant experiment last evening is you check the problem on ga-8i945g topics last evening.....two completly identical board in the same lot.......had different working principles .......i`ve checked with the gigabyte...and there was an conclusion.....i`m not going to enter any guru electronics...bla bla bla ...

p.s. you really have to mention my friend ....pci-express...i know same call it pci-e ..and who knows in how many god damn ways......new personnel should lear it like that ..after they get experience they can call it any way......pci-x..is extended...bla bla bla

i`m out
good luck everyone

Make sure you have the 4 pin for the video card plugged in as well as the VGA or DVI cord.. then i would set all of the settings in your bios to default and try to see if it runs.

yap...don`t worry the pci-express video connector from the power source is identical with the one that cames with the card...(if it is included in the card box)......same of them have 3 pins for gnd and only one for 12 volts ...the other 2 pins remained are free.......on the video pcb all 3 pins dedicated to 12 volts rails are connected, wired together.........some cables have all 6 pin connected 3 for gnd 3 for 12volt...it don`t matter ..... not to worry one wire can handle enough amperage.......of course tree wires can handle more

i don`t know if this is the case but same video cards are working even without the supplimentary power connector....ofcourse they drop in games...but the ideea is that they boot ...i`ve seen this on same nvidia cards .... i simply forgot to plug the suplimentary connector..the sistem started but it crushed in windows after few minute ..then i noticed the problem..and everything worked fine.....

of course i would not start that card x1900xt without the suplimentary connector......

slothmeister..please repply...did you checked the psu integrity......did you connected all the cables according to you configuration.........?
i`m sure that you cpu, mobo, memory, hdd, is working fine...not sure about the others...
we are here to help you my friend

The Asus A8R-MVP if running single grafix card, had to have it placed in the bottom BLUE PCI-e slot only, with the black PCI-e dummy board in the top BLACK PCI-e slot to work.

Not sure but heard there may be some more flexibility with the A8R32-MVP board, I do not have mine yet.

sure....not argue but facts......

your back home is one version mine back in the shop is another version.....
i`ve tried a a8r-mvp...i`ve done this test not to proove anything to you..but to help that poor man......

i did not checked whether there were 8 lanes or 16 on that slot.....that is not the point..the point is that is was working.. the guy that open this forum had another problem ...it did not started

remember strangerstranger you don`t have to try arguing with me ...if you want you can try to help that poor lamb with his situation

help that man.....for example ....what`s that molex doing near the black slot......i have only studied that board for 5 minutes (since it worked) you probably had studied it for more....

i read something like you have to plug a molex from the power source when you use 20 pin atx....not sure here ..... i did not bother to study that out since it worked in first place......

the mistery could be there.......it worth to try anyway......
do you know more about that molex.....

you have to understand me .... everytime i start a new board i use the upper slot for video.......this is a special case and i gave it a try .... my conclusion is that it works as well.........

give as more help...why isn`t that board working with x1900xt...cause i used same x550...and it did

you have to understand me my friend ..you started when you said i spread false info........i`m only trying to help...i gave him my experience you give him yours ..it`s ok...

same friend ... jp101..if i recall....said samething like 4 pin cable.....i did not jumped on him ..i hope we all agree that the pci-express connector is 6pin on that video card i`ve seen it and i`ve used it...he gave his opinion..no problem we are all mature in here ....

the guy that started the topic..i don`t recall his name i must appologise on that ... said he used the pci-express connector from the psu....now we all know what that looks like don`t we... 😀

jp101..peace man...i respect your opinion....but x1900xt has got 6pin power connector 😀

i`ve seen 6600 cards with 4 pin power connectors...shaped like molex power connectors 😀

please read all the lines....and the entire manual ..... 😀

peace

not sure..what psu atx connector our friend has ......20 pin or 24pin...
the supplimentary 4 pin ..i think one is 12 volts one is 3,3 volt and the other 2 are gnd.....

well it should work with 20 as well with 24......
yap the molex near pci-express connector could be for suplimentary power........
same have a red led near..it will light when 20 pin atx cord is used...the sistem works but the manual saids you have to connect it....
😀
peace

my fear is that our friend has a faulty video card ..but i really hope that is not the case
