Ok i am helping my friend Jake build a computer for gaming and AutoCad 2006 i suggested get dual core cus first of all hes using Auto Cad and he does a lot of things at once, the 4400 costs $500 and the 170 costs $430, is the opteron better, i know you can overclock them more but it only has half the FSB so im not sure can you help me help him. Or would it be better to go with the 175???

Both of those processors have the same 1000MHz HyperTransport Front Side Bus. I would recommend getting the 170 to save money, or if $$ is not an issue, grab the 175. Don't bother with Athlon X2's unless there is 0% chance of overclocking.

For his application, assuming he does Auto more than gaming, would be IMHO the Opt. Ive just had better experience with opt processors in programs like CAD.

What mad mod mike said plus you can get the 170 shipped 2 day air for 406.00 at zipzoomfly.com and the 4400 for 458.00 I believe.

So yall say go with the Opty, Im running a Athlon 64 4000 and i thought that the opty would be better, ive heard great things about them. and whats up with them saying the other processors, FX, Athlon 64, X2, run at 2000Mhz?

All AMD64 CPU's (excluding socket 754) run at 1000MHz. But that is 1000MHz FULL DUPLEX. What that means is it Sends and Receives 1000MHz at the same time, giving it an effective 2000MHz operation.

As far as FSB goes, Ive rarely noticed differences between those processors in things like CAD. I really like the Opteron, a fine processor.

Im getting him the same mobo i have, Abit AN8-SLi, but i couldnt fine the fatal1ty version, can yall help me find one. I found a none Sli but he wants the Sli for future expandablility.

I was looking at one of the DFI mobos cus it was sli and it seemed to be pretty good, anyone know how good the DFI boards are, ive only heard good about them.

Not bad, not outstanding, they are good boards nonetheless. Ill check into some on newegg(all hail newegg!).
EDIT: Didn't find any Opteron compatable DFI boards on newegg.
EDIT 2: Opteron mobos are hella expensive! $250 up

I have found out that ZipZoomFly, NewEgg, and TigerDirect have the best deals, i found a deal for him, 2 gigs of OCZ PC4000 Platinum with a eVEGA 7800 GT for $609 is that a good deal, i thought so.

Not bad, could be better. A 7800GT can be had for $280+ I don't know how much that RAM costs but its most likely expensive. Price Range for parts(specific to each item)?

I know I go against the grain on this but don't get me started on DFI boards. Had the SLI Expert for 3 weeks, never got it to run stabley, RMA'd (would have payed to have them take it back) got the Asus A8N32-SLI board, up and running stable in 40mins. Granted that was the only DFI board I've ever tried but it was a HORRIBLE experince I had. As most ppl say on the dfi-street boards "it's the best mobo for overclocking S939 cpus, IF you can get it working right in the first place"

Just my two cents, GRRRR

Must not have looked too hard for mobos that take the opteron on newegg.com. Any socket 939 mobo will take it, just like this one

Dont go SLI, its a poor choice and a waste of money. In some cases SLI configurations of the same card perform worse then single cards of the same type do. And in the ones where its an improvement, its not worth the money. Their are more costs then just the extra card. You have to get a better PSU, the more expensive SLI board.. a power splitter cable (if your PSU doesnt have 2 of em). Then you have to consider the room, heat and power issues.

If he cant overclock then forget about dual core, its not worth it. Go with a fast single core CPU and learn how to OC. If he can and will OC, go with a opty 165.
