ok here goes.

we installed an x2 4600 socket939 into my brothers
msi k8neo4 sli mobo. It previously had a 3500clawhammer.
after the cpu swap it booted up fine no windows reinstall or nothing.

windows and cpu-z only shows one core.

have tried bios update, reinstall of widows, amd dualcore optimizer.
and just about everything i can think of.

any ideas.

i can post pics and more info if needed.

edit; also ran a few multicore benchmarks which resulted in
only one core running.

thanks.

Just wondering, how'd you find the time to post 5k reviews in only a few months?

Thats a good point, how did you post 5K+ reviews in such short time?
Or is it just a system error?

Anyway, during the initial post screen when starting up your PC, can you see if your BIOS detects it as a dualie? (eg. At the initial boot screen just above my memory capacity / cas latencies, my DFI board will say it has a 4200 X2, 2 CPUs)

windows and cpu-z only shows one core
Windows as in the Hardware installed section or the Control+ALT+DEL method??

Regardless of what CPU-Z says, press Control+ALT+DEL and in CPU usage ~ do you see two CPU cores being monitored??

When I switched from single to dual core, the AMD X2 driver appeared to install but instead stuck with the single core version. Try going into device manager, uninstall the AMD CPU device, reboot, then cancel if the cpu is detected and it wants to install the driver. Then run the X2 installer.

In answer to your other question, OEM does not matter.

my brother has the msi with 3500clawhammer.
and the swap to the 4600 manchester is not so good so far.

right now i have my brothers computer ready, but am having
to wait for my girlfriends sister to get off mine.

I just thought of something, have you cleared the cmos? because that will cause your motherboard to remember its previous parts and switching from single to dual core coudl cause that problem

actually no that is the one thing i havent tried.

i am setting here looking at my brothers computer
with hsf off waiting for my girlfriends sister to get off my computer
so i can try a swap with my cpu, im currently on my g/f,s dell

but i guess i could shut this dell down and reinstall the hsf and try that.
