The stock cooler of the x2-6000+ is pretty must the same size as standard AMD factory coolers, but the x2-6000 is actually a small peltier/phase change unit. The contact plate has a rather large chunk of copper, and there are extra fins on the side of the fan for more cooling.

If it is a TEC, then it would require some serious amperage. Does it have a separate plug(Molex or something), as i doubt it would get enough juice from a fan header? :?
 
I don't think so. They won't bundle a £60-70 cooler with a processor. Plus, you would have the extra cable as said earlier.

EDIT: Also, I would like to see te amazing AM2 mobos that can hold a phase unit. A phase unit runs at -30C or less. So I don't think it would have a phase, or it would have a bad mini one.
 
I'm a big TEC fan (pun pun) and I've been waiting for a compact, effective unit. Any links or further info?

With the +12V rail being rated at 1800W that means it can handle an amazing 150A load.

I know, that thing is huge. Standard cpu tec are just a little bigger than the cpu. This one is the size of a palm. Looks like it could interfere with the sock mounts.
I don't think the Tuniq Tower 120 could actually handle the heat generated by that, and a high-end CPU. Would pump oodles of heat into the case. 😱

@1Tanker: Just get another TEC to cool the hot side of the first one. And use phase to cool the hot side of the one cooling the hot side of the other one.

Im looking at Mouser right now for TECs, but there's just soooooooo much awesome stuff, im getting side tracked.

since your all going on about tec cooling a tec block then phase cooling the tec block tahts cooling the tec bloc.. why not go with phase change in the first place 8O

You have to remember that your cooling setup..be it air/water, has to cool the TEC power(350w) and also the CPU's power(~100w for a fast C2D), which means you need to dissipate 450w of heat. That's a lot of heat.

The other problem with that 350w TEC module, is that it's something like 62mmx62mm(most are no bigger than 50mmx50mm), which is bigger than the IHS and probably bigger than the heatsinks base. I'm not sure what would happen if some hung over, but i have a feeling it could get ugly...fast. Correct me if i'm wrong. I've wanted a TEC setup for a few years now, but having to get a seperate PSU(Meanwell seems to be the preferred one), and the associated electricity bill kind of quells my desire. :x
 
Yeah, 62mm^2 base couldn't be cooled by any normal water block, which are 50mm^2. You have to find a specially made water block and the only water block I know of that has a base large enough to cool an entire 62mm^2 tec is the Arctic Web Cooler (see post above for link).

Honestly, the power requirements wouldn't cause your bill to go up that much. I have added 2 more computers to my network at home (don't ask, lol) and the power bill went up maybe $7-10 (estimate). It does translate to $120/year... but then you also get to say you run a TEC and flash your huge e-penis around LOL. :twisted:

Just kidding... I want a TEC setup... money is what is holding back this poor college student.
 
at the rate that amd chip prices are falling you need to change the post title:

"New amd phase cooler includes free amd 6000+ sample chip"

No its not a tec/phase cooler its a amd or should I say foxconn heat pipe cooler with a copper base plate. The product number on the side is foxconn 2ZR71-086. It's the same heat sink that comes with the fx62.
