Question x230 strange lid/monitor switch off

A recently bought a refurbished Lenovo x230, there is a strange lid behaviour both in BIOS and in windows.

The screen goes dark, the disk led keeps blinking, nothing happens until I slightly open/close the lid, which is when the screen switches on.


BIOS has been updated using the Lenovo tool, but nothing has changed probably, ie. it has happened again in windows today.

Could this be a matter of some - presumably BIOS-level - sleep setting? Quite unlikely because of the unpredictability of the problem.
I wonder, perhaps it would be best to have the machine replaced.

I think it might have something to do with the switch that tells the computer whether the lid is open or closed.

That's what I think, too. The monitor would switch off as the only symptom once I set the lid action to do nothing.
Strangely, for a couple of days, the problem has disappeared, which is not good because I have already arranged exchange for a working machine with the seller.
Still, if it happened for some time, it might come back any day.
