Question X299 direct NVME to CPU Boot drive via onboard slot?

Jun 29, 2020
Sorry if this has been asked before. Are there any top quality X299 refresh boards which have a M_2 slot which connects the NVME directly to the CPU rather than through the other chips? Saw a comment under a board reveiw that said somewhere like "at last an X299 board that will allow me to connect my M_2 drive directly to the CPU" but cannot refind it. I want to use a Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 2TB M.2 as a boot and system drive. Or do I always have to use a PCIE card? Thanks for the help.
