x299 intel i3 processor

I have a intel i3 2100 3.10ghz processor and I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard now ive noticed there is x299 motherboards now are they backward compatible with my cpu ? thx

Even if Intel did have an i3 for LGA2011v3, it would make no sense to put a $150 CPU on a $300+ motherboard where most of the motherboard's features would be disabled due to lack of sufficient CPU PCIe lanes.

Intel has been the laughing stock of a fair chunk of the tech press for doing that with the i5-7640X and i7-7740X.

no, the i3 needs the right socket, the x299 doesn't have that socket the i3 has

for the new x299 you need the right cpu for the new socket

Never going to happen. Entry CPU price for the X299 is $300. Also NO CPU is backwards compatible with the X299. Each Intel socket always scraps the last one.

Given how silly mid-range CPUs on an HEDT platform sounds, I'm almost surprised Intel didn't fill the lineup with an i3-7340X and Pentium G4740X while it was at it... go silly all the way for maximum comical effect.

That begs the question: Do you actually need to be on the x299 platform? It's for very specific uses.

Keep in mind that the i5-7640X and i7-7740X are still limited to 16 PCIe lanes, dual-channel memory and all the other CPU-side limitations that the 7600/7700 have on b/h/z-1xx/2xx series chipsets since they use the same die. Unless you know for certain that you will upgrade to an i9-series CPU before Intel obsolesces LGA2011v3 (quite possibly next year if Intel wants to catch up with ThreadRipper's PCIe lane count), getting an x299 motherboard makes no sense and you would be better off going with a z270 motherboard and an i5-7600k.
