I'm working on a build and have a question about the motherboard.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte XS470 AORUS ultra gaming (rev. 1.0).
  1. Specifications here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10/sp#sp
  2. User manual here: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_x470-aorus-ultra-gaming_1001_e_180704.pdf
The video card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB video card in the PCIEX16 motherboard slot.
1) Specifications here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1060/

--> If I place one M.2 NVM3 SSD card into the M2B_Socket on this motherboard, will both the video card and the SSD card operate at full performance?

And also, could you recommend a budget M.2 NVM3 SSD card with a size of 1 TB for this motherboard?

Always grateful for proper assistance, thank you.

OK, I understand now.

1) From the motherboard perspective:

Since the video card is plugged into the PCIEX16 slot, and only the presently unusued PCIEX4 slot shares lanes with the M2B_Socket, using the M2B_SOCKET connector will NOT conflict with the PCIEX16 slot where the video card resides. The answer is NO, the M2B_SOCKET will not conflict with the PCIEX16.

2) From the CPU perspective:

The CPU has 16 lanes for video cards and 4 for M2. The video card I am using uses 8 lanes. The M2A slot can use all for of those lines for the SSD card while the M2B can use only 2 of those lanes (and the M2B also causes the PCIEX4 to be turned off).

Bottom line: There is NO conflict.

P.S. Thanks for the help rgd1101, together we figured it...

what the cpu?

M2B use chipset pcie lane. and it is older gen 2. about half performance of gen 3

and the budget is?

The CPU is a AMD Ryzen 7 2700x.

So you're saying the video card is using the CPU lanes but the M.2 NVM3 SSD card will use the motherboard lanes.

Meaning, there should be no lane sharing between the video card and the SSD card. Correct?

So the only other question would be what ($90-$120) budget SSD 1TB hard drive card will work with all 4 lanes of the M2B_SOCKET at a decent speed?

M2B_SOCKET = 1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 PCIe 2.0 x4/x2 SSD support) (M2B_SOCKET)

you should use the M2A as it offer full pcie3 x4

M2B offer pcie2 x4/x2, that 1/2 and 1/4 performance of the M2A

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-ULTRA-GAMING-rev-10/support#support-doc
m.2 support list
stick with the Gen2 one if you going to use M2B

I see. So the M2A_SOCKET is dedicated and does not share with any PCIEX slot (like the M2B_SOCKET does in sharing bandwidth with the PCIEX4 slot) and works at full Gen 3 capacity (all 4 lanes).

This means using M2A_SOCKET will not interfere with the PCIEX16 slot (like using a card in the PCIEX8 slot would).

So, a Silicon Power 1TB NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 TLC R/W up to 3,400/3,000MB/s SSD (SU001TBP34A80M28AB) might be a good choice then?
