I am building a budget CAD/FEA/Gaming machine.
I have a Xeon E5649 (six core 2.5Ghz), and a MSI X58 PRO-E (MS-7522 V3.1) motherboard.
The Xeon supports ECC DDR3 1333Mhz, but there is no info about ECC in the motherboard manual.
Would ECC ram work as I can get 24GB 1333Mhz for 45 euro :)

Solution
Well the best way to find out is buy the memory.
Then if it boots up immediately go to the bios setup screen.
Bring the memory speed down to 1333mhz.
If it works after saving the settings and rebooting.
You're Msi board will boot right back on under 45 seconds.
See if that board will use crucial memory ecc.
If it does find one with good memory timing and voltages.
I heard that a single Xeon would support unbuffered, so the only limiting factor would be the mother board.
Just want to be sure as I have a pretty tight budget 🙁
Xeon maxs at 1333mhz.
