Hello guys. i bought this beast of motherboard just a month ago a nice price on ebay. (used ). but i got debug post d4 on mombo .
Processor is W3690 or eq 990x
Ram is DDR3 1333 Mhz ECC PC3-10600E RAM 2gb and 4gb ( total of 16gb )
Gpu 290x rog
Ssd samsung 128gb
Psu v1000 coolermaster

i get a black screen and from my inspection i see a broken cpu fase led (nr10)
so basicly im not geting even the bios page .

i have tried with 1 memory stick on DIMM 1 (first black from the cpu ) still debug post d4
i have tries with 1 memory stick on DIMM 2 i get E8 (so basicly it doesnt recognise the ram at all when i do this)
i have inspected the cpu pins and none is bend
i have cleared the cmos with the buton behind the motherboard ( wating for 1 min and presing the start up buton with my psu swiched off to remove all electricity from the system )
STILL THE SAME DEBUG d4.
after this i installed evrything back on my old system X58 gigabyte usb3 and evrything works great .

advice and help needed

2) the ECC ram is a CPU compability i think that doesnt mater
Yes, I know some x58 MBs can support either non-ecc or ecc with the certain BIOS, but MSI does not list the ecc RAM. Recommend to try the non-ecc first if you have them.

If someone on msi forum put a x5680 on this board to work, I think he/she will use the newer BIOS version. I don't use any X58 PC, so I don't know 1) you can use the ecc RAM on X58 MSI BIGBANG even the MSI does not list them. 2) I know you can use some cpu in the MB that the manufacturer does not list that cpu, and the chance is 50-50% in that case.
You have two problems for the black screen.
1) The cpu, W3690, is not in the cpu support list, only xeon cpu is the W3520. http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Big_BangXPower.html#support_support
2) D4 error relates to the RAM according the manual. You need the non-ECC unbuffered RAM even you use the xeon cpu. Check the MB spec. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Big_BangXPower.html#hero-specification
So if you want, and buy the non-ecc RAM, also other compatible cpu. You may update the BIOS first, then you maybe or may not use the W3690, because the xeon was released on Q1'11 http://ark.intel.com/products/52586/Intel-Xeon-Processor-W3690-12M-Cache-3_46-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI if the MB has the old version BIOS, you have no chance to boot the PC, even you have other right PC components, like the ram , gpu, PSU, etc.

Thx cin19 .
1)Something that i noticed was on the ram the serial nr . hynic ram was suported 2g and 4g stick but with deferent serial nr .
2) the ECC ram is a CPU compability i think that doesnt mater
3)ill try today with 920 i7 and hoppfully i find a diferent but in a list 1333mhz ram and if this doesnt work im very suspicios about the broken phase led.
What do you think about that ?
