Hello,i have Asus x58 Rampage Extreme III motherboard and 4gb of ram installed.
I want to upgrade this system but dont know what ram modules to choose because its old beast mobo.

I found some corsair TR3X6G1600C9 v2.1 1.65v 2x3GB (6GB)1600mhz kit and in the motherboard manual i can find this ram kit is supported.

AND
Ballistix Sport 2x4GB (8GB) 1600mhz 1.5v BLS4G3D1609DS00 16FKD3

Balistix Sporr 2x8GB (16GB) 1600mhz 1.5v BLS8G3D1609DS1S00 16FED

*I cant find balistix in owners manual, will that be a problem for tripple channel?
*And will 2x4 GB+1x8GB work in tripple channel since they are same timings and speeds? (Balistix)

Or should i just buy the corsair kit and look for another one corsair kit for 12gb ram total ?

CPU is i7 960 and rx570 gpu

Solution
While the board can run in triple channel it doesnt have to. Make sure your board is up to the latest bios version.

Things i noticed on my R3E board, It does not like 8GB sticks, the memory controller is on the CPU so filling all 6 slots might take a little tweeking voltage wise.

Since the system is 11 years old now finding 3 stick ddr3 kits has become harder, you could run 3 2x2GB for 12GB or 3 2x4GB for 24GB. Its been a while but at some point i tried running a 3x8GB kit but never got it working, ended up going back to 6x2GB.

As for a 2x4 + 1x8 im not sure how the board would handle it
