X58 system - triple channel or no?

I need an additional set of ddr3 for an X58 system - should I buy a triple channel kit or will it be 100% compatible with faster, more modern ddr3? (there would be no correctly sized single kit though - need 6 dimms in total) The motherboard for the system is the ASUS Rampage III Formula.

You are NEVER guaranteed multi-cahnnel operation by buying single DIMMs and you should always buy kits.
