X99 Board with 1 stick of RAM???

I am getting a new CPU + board + ram. I am getting a 5820k, with a MSI X99S MPOWER motherboard (is it good, it was the cheapest variant?). I also need to get ddr4 ram.

Now with the purchase of these 2 I have very little money left for the ram, so I can at the time get only one 8gb stick. So far 8gb has served me well.

What I am asking is will it work with only 1/8 ram sticks installed and should I go for 2x4gb instead of the one 8 gig and then keep adding 4gb sticks as I get money for a total of 32gb or get one 8 gig and then keep adding 8gb on a larger time scale?

Solution
You should always at least run dual channel, so two sticks. I also recommend getting ALL the RAM you want in a SINGLE pack, because sometimes even the exact same RAM (if you get 2x4 now and the same 2x4 later) will make problems.

And yes, you should definitively switch out that PSU. You got high end expensive hardware there and got a low end cheap PSU. To answer your question, yea 750w will easily run this system, but a CX unit for that kind of hardware? Wouldn't try it. If you run a low quality unit like that and it fails, there is a higher chance of your hardware getting damaged, because low end PSUs don't have that much safety measures.
Yeap it will work fine.

Adding a single stick at a time is not a good solution. When you upgrade your memory, you should get a 4X8GB instantly or at least 2X16 (which at this point is much pricier). Adding single sticks will introduce a lot of instability. Best case scenario you are limited to the factory setting of 2133MHz.

You don't want to populate all 8 channels. Running 8 dimms is pretty taxing in the mobo and it limiting overclocking potentials of the both the cpu and ram. Even if you are not into OC it could only create problems.

Also one of the most common problems of X99 is faulty memory slots (one out of eight).

ok... so should I go for 2x4gb and then add another 2x4gb at a later date? Also I have a cx 750m (plz dont kill me) and a 980ti, would the psu work(it will work, but they are lower quality...) or do I have to get a new one (they are insanely expensive in my country)?

Well with the ram I will have to take my chances, I simply cannot afford a new psu and all the ram at once. Now as far as the psu is concerned would a cooler master v650s be enough or should I go for the v750s (every dollar counts), as far as I can see they are in tier 1?

If i was to do the same with the memory i would buy 2400 Mhz. The reason you could raise the compatibility if you were to drop the frequency to the standard 2133 (anything beyond is considered overclocking). I would recommend crucial, they tend to have the most compatible ones.

For the psu : Seasonic EVO 620, Super flower golden leadex green (the non modular), evga gs, g1,g2.

Yea, hope the RAM works. 😛
And also yes, the Cooler Master V650s is a very high quality unit and a great choice. :)
650w will run your system without any problems. :)

Ok, last question hopefully, I was gonna buy the v650s but then I noticed that the gpu power cable is non modular, and as I was hoping to get some custom sleeved cables down the line when I get extra money I dont want to go for that. Would this one work http://www.itsvet.com/napajanje_seasonic_ss_750am2-pdaa1-57.i?id=993 (sorry it's not an english site, but you'll get the jist of it I hope). I'm not sure if it's the right model, but if I am it should be tier 2 on the list (good enough?).

Thanks a lot

Ok, thanks for all the help, I ended up going for an evga supernova (imported from a neighbouring country).

Sadly due to that costing more I'll have to go with a single 4gb stick and then adding up to 16gb, hopefully I dont run into much trouble.
