X99 Build Help

Hi guys,

I am going to be building my first system in the next 2 weeks. I am going to be using the X99 platform because of future upgradeability. I am also wanting to preferably go with the MATX chassis but am willing to go with an ATX chassis. If I go down the MATX route I want the case to be the Corsair Air 240 and if I go with an ATX chassis I want either the Air 540 or the Phanteks Enthoo Pro. The reason I was thinking of going with a MATX case was I do not have a lot of room to put the PC at this moment and time, so if I had to go with ATX I would prefer the Air 540.
The systems going to be used for Gaming, Web development, Programming, Virtualization, Browing the web and the occasional editing. I do game quite a bit so I would need the system to be strong enough to run the latest games such as BF Hardline and GTA 5 on ultra above 70fps.
I also do not wish to SLI the system in the future I would much rather just have 1 high-end video card such as 980ti if it gets released or the r9 390x depending on the heat and power consumption.
I have come up with 2 possible builds but am unsure which would be best. If anyone could suggest a build that would be better than my chosen 2 then that would be great.

Ok well you said that you don't have a lot of room for a full tower or mid tower case and you said you have no intentions of going with SLI so I would have to go with your first build. Only bonus with going with a bigger case would be for SLI and better cooling potential. mATX builds are becoming pretty popular these days and I would actually like to do one myself sometime.

OP, your first build looks pretty strong for the price so I would personally go for it!

CPU: Intel Core i7 5820K
CPU Cooler: Cryorig R1 Ultimate/Universal (best air CPU chiller) or NZXT Kraken X61
Motherboard: (Most of the X99 mobos have one or the other bug. Most have BIOS problems, some have compatibility issues with other hardware. The ASUS X99 Sabertooth is a pretty rock solid X99 mobo and won't let you down if you give it a chance) ASUS X99 Sabertooth or MS X99S SLI Plus or MSI X99S Gaming 7.
Memory: (Save money on parts you can upgrade later. You don't need 16GB RAM as long as the PS4 and Xbox One are in the game)
2x Corsair Value Select 4GB DDR4 2133MHz CAS15 or Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GBx2 DDR4 2133/2400 MHz CAS16
Graphics Card: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 100ME (This variant of the card comes with a back plate and is a little faster than the Twin Frozr)
HDD: You can't go wrong with that. The one you selected is perfect!

Don't let anybody tell you different about the Intel Core i7-5820K. There will be a time when the Core i7-4790K (which is about the same price as the 5820K) can't keep up with the increasing demand of CPU. The Core i7-5820K leaves the i7-4790K in dust. Always go with the newer hardware.
