And the 6800GT wins!

Note that Xbit were not able to activate the 4 pipeline on the X800pro. Some peopel claimed they could. I wonder if Xbit missed something or that the other guys "lied" about it or is ATI made it harder to enable those 4 disabled pipeline!

Not just some people, ALOT of people. Heck SpeedUK posted his succes in THIS thread, and we've seen the before and after results, so really X-Bit's a bunch a tools for making this type of article and then failing miserably at what would be seen as a basic mod (heck many are even Soft-Modable now) .

Doing a review like this and not actually moding your card is like having a street race and not knowing where the N2O Boost button is.

Especially when the title involves moding and 'Extreme OC'ing'.

Sad outing from Xbit really, the number of moded cards out there isn't small, so it sounds like they just didn't look hard enough for the correct core (seriously look harder than PowerCRAPPER!).

It was nice to see them get well above the 600mhz mark, but really this is a review for the overclocker, not the MODer.

I heard it was the VIVO series that was soft modable.
Apparantly all the ViVo's had that faster memory too so they where easily soft modable to XtPe speed/pipes.

I really need links to this! Not only I heard this... Where is the infos and drivers downaload. Since it's software modable, hacked drivers are probably available somewhere?

Yes, I want to see links and judge if it's possible or totally fake! If the X800pro is software "upgradable" to X800XT everyone would know it!

Well, In fact, I still have some time before my next upgrade! Time will probably clear the dust!

From reading post on this Xtreme System Forums, looks like you need a Sapphirre Vivo and Club 3D Vivo card in order to soft mod the card...

hmmm

he had to voltmod the x800pro to get it up to frequencies where it would compete with a non voltmodded 6800gt, and then it still lost most of the time

interesting. but, this is only one review. still, 420mhz is very reachable, unlike 630mhz :)

Yeah, sorry I thought you would've already seen it here.

As you can see 'WE' have discussed it before.

BTW;

Here's a link to Digit-Life's PowerCrapper hard-mod;

And also from Xbit, ATI to release the X800GT to compete against the GF6800GT;

Too bad ATI didn't name their SE product GT and call their new product something else, thus screwing with nV customers heads the way that nV did with the XTs. :evil:

I just finished reading the Digit-Life article and the rage3d thread. Now, I understand that many X800pro ViVo hard BIOS modable. Which is good news! I hope X-Bit Labs will figure out how to mod their watercooled X800pro.

Wow! And it's the boxed version. The only problem, no one in stock! Too bad!

The funny thing is that it's still above ATI's own price and they DO have stock.

I might pop by their building in T.O. when I'm on vacation. I took some pics last time I was there but everyone was away on X-mas holidays.

Next time you pass by the ATI HQ, ask them for an X800pro BOX. Not a single part BOX, but a BOX they ship they Europe or Asian market! :smile:

Or maybe, you may find some left-over card in their garbage!!!

I wonder if ATI employee can buy ATI GPU at low cost?

I start to think that the 6800 series will win over X800 series in mid-long term. At first, both product seems pretty equal. But now that drivers have matured and nVidia offering better price/performance ratio in "low-end" 6800 series ATI probably feel a bit incomfortable. And we must not forget SM3.0 support.

As a wise guy, I will definetly consider 6800 series when it will come to upgrade. I still plan to buy 9600 or 9800 pro, because they are becoming very cheap, but if I have more money to burn, I might switch again!

Matrox to 3dFX to nVidia to ATI to ???

well, if i was upgrading later this summer, id probably consider a 6800GT over everything else. its just a great deal, even at stock speeds

but im not upgrading, so im waiting for the R500 and its variants. i think sinse ATI held back this generation and nVidia turned around and suprised us, theres gotta be something great in store .. especially after having 3+ years of development time sinse the original R300.. both companies will probably have something incredible
