Xbox 360 controller for pc

What is the best controller to buy for using it on PC? Does a wireless xbox 360 controller work for all pc games on steam? If i bought a cheap wired xbox 360 controller on amazon, will it have the same controls as the xbox version of the game on the controller for PC? If i buy GTA 5 on pc through Steam, will the controller use the controls of the xbox 1 version of gta 5? I'm kinda contused how controller work on pc, i'm new to this. Is there a "best" controller to use for pc games through steam or is it personal preference? I would buy a wired 360 controller because i only have a xbox 360 console, but if theres a different controller that was best for pc i would buy that.. so what should i do? haha.

i use the after glow xbox controler! works flawless and really good build quality, it took me awhile to find a good one but this one works, and is like 19.99 not 69.
works with all steam games so far
