im trying to get my 360 controller to connect to my windows 7 64bit pc but the adapter isn't being recognized as the xbox 360 controller. ive installed the drivers and reinstalled it and still have this issue

Solution
I had this problem when I used a wireless adapter to hook my wireless controller up to PC. I can't remember it step by step as it was three or four months ago but I went to
Start
Devices and Printers
Right click the USB device (controller/adapter)
Troubleshoot
Search for drivers
Microsoft Xbox 360 USB controller/adapter

These aren't the exact steps but if you've had to troubleshoot usb devices before (its windows so im guessing most people have! :p ) then you should be able to find it easy enough.

I solved it using Windows 7. first check if your drivers are set to automatic update. if not do so. if you see in your Devices and Printers the receiver for the Xbox controller but not the controller. and go inside the receiver properties in the Hardware tab uninstall the current driver. once it doesn't recognize the receiver anymore unplug it and put it back in. now it should automatically update the correct driver. There ya go.
