Xbox 360 controller killing audio on PC

So im trying to use an Xbox 360 wireless controller with receiver on my pc. The problem is that whenever plugged in, the controller gets rid of all of my sound because my computer reads it as an audio device and shuts out my headset. I have tried disabling the controller in control panel to no avail. pls help. pls

You may have tried this when you say you disabled the controller in the control panel but if not, try this:

Go to control panel, sound and audio, hardware, USB devices, and disable it.

That will specifically disable the audio portion of that device.

Let us know if that works.
