XBOX 360 controller not connecting to pc?

I have a controller for my pc that I use for several different games. It worked fine before but out of nowhere, it started refusing to connect. Whenever I press the sync button on the controller and on the receiver, there's the spinning light as usual, and they suddenly stop, signaling that they've connected, but then the controller just flashes instead of actually connecting. I've tried updating the drives, uninstalling/reinstalling them, restarting the computer, and unplugging the controller and plugging it back it, to no avail. Does anyone have any idea why it won't work and how to fix it?

Update software and drivers. Make sure battery levels are good. Also, try it with a different controller and see if the receiver is having issues.

The drivers are up to date, and I did try it with a different controller and got the same result. In the device manager menu, it says it's working properly, but it still won't connect. Like I said, just flashes like it's trying to connect but doesn't get past that.

update: I just realized that device manager doesn't recognize the receiver, and lists it as an unknown device.

Ah. Try installing it again.

FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK. Reinstalling it did the trick. I don't know why it stopped working in the first place. Anyway, thank you.
