Question Xbox 360 controller not working on windows 10

I have an xbox360 controller, it's worked countless times before but it was always a struggle to make it work, and now the bars around the logo only lights up then it would pop up as "usb device not recognized" then the lights turn off, what can I do?

not sure if it's old or new, it was just given to me, it connects through a usb cable though

I have never run across a significant issue with either generation of Xbox controller (or clones) connected via cable. I would suggest that the controller is probably bad. Do you have another PC you can try to connect it to just to see if the issue follows?

yep, tried it on 2 different PCs, same thing happens sadly, it really is the connection though I think cause every button works perfectly fine
