I am going to be buying an Xbox 360 controller to play games on my pc. Do not own a 360, and never had a 360 controller before, but can the wireless be used without a receiver, (do they also have a usb plug in connection), and is wired better than wireless for PC gaming, or no major difference. Thank you.

Grab this http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 and you can use any xbox 360 wireless controller with it. I use it on my PC and it works great, never had any issues with dropped connection or lag.

You can connect up to 4 wireless controllers to it which is nice if you want to play locally with friends. I have used it with n64 emulators to play old school smash brothers with some friends. Not having wires is really nice.
To use the wireless controllers you need one of those dongles, which is just extra money.

To be honest, might as well get a wired one, much cheaper and you don't need any special device to faff around with just to get it working.
