Xbox 360 - dvd drive replace

hey all, just looking at replacing a DVD drive in on of my xbox's.

i have found one online for a good price..

..but all the ones i look at say they need to be flashed.

is this just a mod, or must it be done for the drive to do its job?

I've heard that any kind of mod on 360 will bar xbox live use on that console

any advice would be great.

the people at Microsoft would like it if could please throw it in the garbage and purchase a new one , as they aren't going to make it easy for you to fix the one you already own . which is really too bad that they didn't build it more like a pc than they did.
