I recently purchased the official wireless xbox controller for windows, with the little receiver included and all. I can't get it to connect, the green light is on at the receiver (not blinking as if its not connected), but the controller will not designate a quadrant light to show its connected. it just keeps blinking.
In device manager I show "XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows", but no controller. Under "Unspecified" I have a "HID-Compliant Device" which i'm assuming is the controller, but i cant get it to update drivers or anything. Please help!

Solution
Click Start, type Device Manager, and press Enter then find "XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" (or what ever it says it will say something xbox) then open the driver tab and at the bottom and click uninstall
drivers http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows

To Do this
1.Right click on Computer
2.Go to Properties
3.Click on Device Manager
4.Right click on the Unidentified Device
5.Go to Properties
6.Go to the Drive tab
7.Click on "Update Driver"
8.Browse my computer for driver software
9.Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
10.Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class
11."Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows"
12.Update Driver Warning
13.Click Yes

everytime i try to download from there it tells me that i already have that driver installed. and in step 10 i dont get the option to browse to the location of the driver file if i choose the option to pick it manually.

I was previously using a wired version of the controller, so it had the "motionjoy" drivers already installed. Wouldnt let me install from disc because it kept giving the error that it was already updated.

there is your problem your system has the wired drivers and u need the wireless drivers thats why it was saying u all ready have the drivers installed so all u have to do is uninstall the wired drivers and install the wireless drivers from the web sight and follow steps 1-13 and it will work just fine

Click Start, type Device Manager, and press Enter then find "XBOX 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" (or what ever it says it will say something xbox) then open the driver tab and at the bottom and click uninstall
