Hello my friend tells me that his original xbox (yest the first one) tray can open and close its just that whenever he puts a disc in it the disc tray starts making a scratching noise and the disk get scratches. He says that the track is off (still dont know what that means), I would like to know how to fix it......spending money is not a option for me. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

If I remember correctly this was more of an issue with the 360 rather than the original xbox. Anyway I know the issue that normally caused the problem was either moving the system while running or that the actual laser kind of got out of place and was dragging on the disk. Normally I would say contact MS but at this point I doubt they would do anything with a system 3 generations back. What was wonderful about the original xbox was you basically could replace everything on it. My friends and I all replaced the hard drives and I would assume your step would be to replace the disk drive. The xbox used a dvd 9 disk so you will have to looking into a drive that can do that as well.

Like I said I cant use money, would there be a way to manually move it into place.

I misinterpreted your op, I thought you were meaning money wasn't an option (which confused me why anyone would dump money into the original xbox). As far as your question I suppose you could tear it apart and see what is going on exactly. At this point you don't have to worry about voiding a warranty but just be careful about electrical build up. Your best bet is to expose the disk drive and see if anything looks out of place or loose. You really don't have anything to lose in this venture since it isn't working now.

Could you please send me a link of a video of someone tearing one open so I can learn how to.
