Xbox not working with monitor

My monitor will switch from hdmi 1 and it will play the fire tv stick on hdmi but when I switch it to hdmi 2 which is my Xbox is just automatically switches back to hdmi 1

You sure you don't have the HDMI cable plugged in to the HDMI in, rather than HDMI out? IIRC they have an HDMI in for satellite/cable television receivers
