Xbox One and Windows 10 save files transfer

Hey guys, I've read that with an Xbox Gold membership one is able to save savefiles in the cloud and open them on Windows 10.

I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet, but I bought another copy of a game that i had on Xbox one and was wondering if, WITHOUT Xbox Gold, I'd be able to at ALL save the savefile onto an external drive or something and bring it over to my Windows 10 machine?

I can imagine you could just save the game onto a flash drive on the Xbox and bring it to the PC. I imagine the gold service provides a cloud service where you dont have to do it manually, its all automatic.

First see if you can transfer a save file via USB.
Cant you also play Xbox Games on Windows 10 if you own the game on Xbox?

Do I need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to use cloud storage?
No. Anyone who is signed up for the Xbox Live service can store their saved games in the cloud.

I don't see why you couldn't manually move them though, as the cloud isn't doing anything special, just 'helping' with the migration.
