I play about 6 to 7 hrs per day. (Retired) It seems that they don't last more than a year without some problem. Usually buttons fails. Now mine has developed a drift to the left on the left stick sometimes during game play. I've calibrated it, but to now avail. How long should they last, What is the best one on the market. Thanks

I would think at least several years user caused damage excepted. I have an "original" one (as opposed to the S and onward) that I was given used from a friend. He had it a couple of years and now I have as well. The one(s) I had before went bad on joystick (1) and trigger (1).

I have one of the newer ones that I have been using for around a year or two and it is showing no signs of issue.

I tend to like the original ones the best. They pair well and work well with PC. The newer one wants a "special" dongle that MS sells for ~$25, which I didn't know when I purchased it (the older ones don't). I just use it wired to avoid that issue. In my own experience the off brand ones tend to have various issues pairing or working correctly, and obvious build quality issues on the cheapest ones.
