Xbox One S Controller works through Bluetooth but not USB

Hi there, I've just bought a new Xbox One S controller, but it only works through Bluetooth, whenever I try to connect it with an USB cable, it rumbles but the light doesn't turn on and won't work. I have an old version of the Xbox One controller (the one that doesn't have bluetooth) and it connects instantly through the same USB cable. Does anyone know why this might happen?

Have you got the latest BIOS and motherboard drivers as it could be something isn't identifying the controller
