Hello,

The other day, I was looking for a new way to trick out my Xbox One controller. I had just also received two rubber thumbgrips for the controller. Then it got me thinking...

Could I paint this controller's thumbgrips?

The thumbgrips are rubber and detachable, and I was wondering what I should do?

Thanks for the read!

I don't believe there's any paint durable enough to stand up to the friction of using a thumbstick, you'd be better off looking for rubber that's already dyed the color you want, if it even exists. (Confidence level of this: mid to high)

I once had a PS2 slim, controller, and power brick custom painted in Dr. Pepper red. I kept the guts of the PS2 out of the shell, but was unwilling to do the same with the controller due to previous experience in getting the guts back in. Within about 10 hours of gameplay the top of the thumbsticks both shed the paint in one piece, and looked terrible until I went and scraped off the remainder of the paint.

If I could do it again, I would take the pains to de-shell the controller as well so the...

Is there any kind of paint that would hold up overtime?

If I could do it again, I would take the pains to de-shell the controller as well so the buttons and sticks remained their standard color and texture. The softer rubber for the thumbstick just felt so much better. Still salty about it getting stolen.
