I was wondering if anyone has a series X and a gaming PC and can compare the 2 objectively. There must be some people out there who have both a PC and an xbox and can give an unbiased comparison. Basically I understand that consoles have been getting better and better and closing the gap with PC's but have been unable to compete at the high end. However media is suggesting that the new Xbox can compete on the high end, with RTX 2070-2080 systems, just trying to see how accurate this claim is. Looking for comparison in graphical fidelity, framerates, multi-tasking but mostly gaming oriented. Seeing if anyone is trying over 60fps with xbox. Also please let me know the hardware in your pc, no laptop comparisons either please.
Thanks!

I have a Series X and a pc with 3080 & 3700x. The XBox is very convenient for the living room and very impressive for the price. However the same game on PC does look noticeably better. I have played several games across both and the PC does just look head and shoulders better but I am still very impressed with what the XBox achieves given its price. I mainly use the pc on a 1440p 144Hz monitor but have at times connected to the TV (4K 120Hz HDR OLED).
I’d say if you have the patience get a pc. But if you need it now get a Xbox bc the pc prices are crazy rn

I have 2 pc's already lol I don't have an xbox I'm just wondering how they compare. I want to get a 3080 to upgrade my 1080 but if the Xbox can play 4k @ 120hz and not miss a frame I'll go for that. My prediction is that the Media is full of it and there is no way the xbox can compete with a 2080 spec PC that is properly cooled. Just looking for people who own both to weigh in. I'm even skeptical that the new xbox can compare with my old 1080 watercooled system.

If we're talking about the performance of games in a console or PC, then we can start by looking at the specs. The Xbox Series X has something that looks like the equivalent of a Ryzen 7 3800X just downlocked slightly and turbo boost disabled and a GPU between the RX 6700 XT and 6800, though more towards the 6800. This puts it somewhere between the RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti. However, the actual in-game performance on the console still depends on what the developer is trying to achieve and consoles tend to suspend apps in the background while playing games.

my series x is silent as the grave. and how exactly is ps5 "better"?

my son can play cyberpunk or whatever forever on it and it's never noisy. we can't even hear it.

Console games typically do not run fidelity settings similarly to PC game settings. Console games usually have predetermined settings that cannot be changed individually. Console are also much better optimized for drivers-wise because many more people game with console than PC's. The actual hardware inside is, in my opinion, at around a 3800x paired with a 2070S - 2080 level. The reason it performs better than that is because of the nature of them being closed systems that are better optimized and easier to optimize for. When consoles come out they are typically 1 generation behind CPU and GPU wise. This does not mean they will not game well however. For the money console are almost always better to get than a PC if your singular use case is gaming and increasingly more used web browsing (on consoles). Sony and Microsoft typically lose a couple hundred dollars producing a console but more than make up for that loss with their online sale platform.

Does anyone here actually own both a desktop with an RTX card and a series X and can definitively tell me how they compare in the real world? So far every reply is just what the first 3 google articles say, I can read that myself. I understand the specs. What I want to know is how that machine performs in the real world compared to a computer of the last generation or so, specifically in regards to higher resolution and higher refresh displays.

Go look at Eurogamer and see if they've done anything. Figuring out how well an Xbox Series X performs requires capturing video from it and analyzing it on a frame by frame basis to figure out frame times. Most of us don't have the tools to do that in an efficient manner.

But either way, console developers will target a specific frame rate and if they're worth their salt, will do their darnedest to maintain it. Which means you're looking at either 30 FPS, 60 FPS, or 120FPS.

I have played on a friends xbox and have a 3080. The PC is superior in every single way if that is your question, but seeing as you have previously stated that you can read, I'm guessing you knew that already. If you are going to post a discussion and then downvote everyone that discusses the topic then you need to think about what it is that you want; a Question thread or a Discussion thread.

thanks for the chuckle... just noticed the downvote! lol. he wants to know how to compare an apple to an orange. like how people like to compare how the F-22 is compared the the F-35... they (PC and Console) are different animals made for different tasks! different OS as well! cannot be compared.

if you want one, buy one, if not, don't.

oh and have fun with your downvote button

lol, i won't spend the money for a gaming pc anymore with outrageous prices (since decades now)

all i do is game on my console, unless it's GoG stuff, old.

not once have I ever cared if it was as good as pc or not. I just have fun.

I noticed all the downvotes too. As this is labelled as a discussion thread, people are having a discussion. Good luck getting a "real world" answer when you have no patience when someone offers up an opinion and you downvote them. And that's mostly all most answers would be is opinions. Without extensive side by side testing in certain scenarios like hotaru.hino mentioned, all answers are nothing more than opinions as hardware works differently for people based on their needs, their use and their patience.

Lol sorry for downvoting, I reupvoted everyone. I was just salty because I've been looking all day for someone who owns both to give a first hand comparison and was frustrated that actually finding such a person is kinda difficult. Thanks for the answers though!
