xbox360 to vga monitor problem

hi from the uk, my 12 year old son decided he wanted to have his xbox360 running on the old 19" widescreen dell monitor he uses for his pc which has only got a vga connection. The monitor works fine when connected to his pc's graphics card which has hdmi and dvi output which we use a dvi to vga converter. To connect the xbox to the vga monitor I bought an "active" hdmi to vga converter but when we hook it up and power up the monitor is blank and says "going into power saving mode" and "no signal detected" anyone got an idea of how to fix it? have tried altering the monitors resolution from its highest to lowest available......makes no difference....

Seems like i once saw an xbox hooked to a monitor like that. Maybe you could try a composite to vga coverter since those would both be analog connections vs trying to use dvi to vga which dvi is a digital connection and is trying to convert back down to analog.
