Looks like it will turn out similar to Xcom: Enforcer which could be pretty cool, they just have to do it right. I wonder if they are going to stick with the aliens from the original or make some new ones, the original ones in terror attacks were pretty scary.

Yuck. The whole fun of X-Com for me was managing the teams and bases, having day one marines survive. The squad style combat was fun if not a bit dated now but there are modern metaphors for that.

Stick to what works. Update don't reimagine.

Sure, a great FPS set in that world could be great. Could be BioWare great. But that's not the game we want, obviously. Fallout 3 was a great game even reimagined but it mostly stick to the original paradigm and in this case the original paradigm is not about 1 character.

If it's an RPG/FPS hybrid like Fallout 3 and Borderlands, maybe it might be worth trying a demo, but if it's a straight up FPS...I'll pass. If anything, this should have been an RTS.

That's too bad they're turning it into a shooter. I love shooters, but there are SO many sci-fi style shooters out there, what would make X-Com unique? If they were going the 1st person route I'd much rather see it end up more like Fallout3 than like Bioshock. X-Com works so well as a strategy game. I just have a hard time seeing them able to capture this as a shooter.

I downloaded all of the old XCOM games from Steam a few months ago. I like playing old games and don't mind the bad graphics. However, I just hated those games. I thought they were boring and just couldn't get into them.

Maybe it just me, but I didn't get nearly as much out of Bioshock as others did. Kind of similar to ROTT (Rise of the Triad for those under 25 years of age)Now that's a game I would like to see remade.

I recently just beat xcom again. I play that game more than any other old game (with the possible exception of Quake 1). As an FPS, this will probably only have some story elements and weapons in common. If I don't get to research tech, fly aircraft, manage bases, capture aliens, etc, then this will be a dissapointment. It will probably be just one xcom-type mission per level.

I'm ok with FPS instead of Turn Based, but they need to keep the following elements otherwise this game will not be a hit!

1) Geoscape/UFO interception
2) Ability to change loadouts of you and your team
3) Reasearch
4) Bases and construction/manufacturing
5) Non Linear Storytelling and Gameplay/Open World/Sandbox
6) Terror Missions/UFO Crash Site Missions

Basically, the same game as UFO:Enemy Unknown, but instead of turn based ground missions, First Person Ground Missions.

What made X-COM such a classic was that each playthrough was different. UFO's pop up at random. Enemy bases are located at random. You can place bases where you want and are free to design the layout as you want. You can research technology at your own pace. You need to balance manufacturing to make money and still make items for your squad.

I would hate for this game to turn into a COD/MW clone where you just run mindlessly through a level.

Yeaiah! Another good game to ruined by lousy programming and tons of restictive DRM.

It should at least have base building and a command and control system like the FPS/RTS remake of BattleZone did. That was a remake that worked well.

There already is an x-com fps….. its horrible.

Why not actually remake the x-com everyone liked rather than the one they didn’t. X-com as an FPS works about as well as turning Disney land into a meat processing plant.

DRM DLC booooo
fallout 3 felt very thin
bioshock 2 was hard to play

kids these days dont have the patience to get into a game

mount n blade perfect example of how stratergy and updated gameplay can work together
-too bad nobody can be bothered playing it

one of the best games ever

if xcom can borrow from mount and blade and fallout 3 with updated graphics -it will be one of the best game ever

play 'mount n blade' if ure an XCOM fan

Speaking of Fallout 3, isn't it time for the next Elder Scrolls game to be coming out, That is a game I really want.

What the heck is there to XCOM besides the gameplay?

It's a game about an agency that fights aliens and Cthuhlu. What 'story and lore' is there in XCOM that could support a narrative FPS?

XCOM is resource and alliance management, research, and tactical combat. This will have none of those things.

Hey... They could make it work... What they need to do is to make it a deep shooter with management/RPG elements without thumb sucking or easy modo... Then I will be quite satisfied.

Or... It will be the next brotherhood of steel... :/

This lacks hommage to the original because for one, X-com was an international agency, FBI is american only, two X-com is meant to be strategy, as said by several other users, and three just think about Apocalypse, thats the game that started the downword spiral, re-inventing X-com with a first person shooter would drive the series into the ground entirely, the market out there is too over populated with FPS's that X-com would just be drowned out by the next COD game or Battlefield game even, so why waste the time to put a game thats tried and proven into a market that the crew behind X-com already tried getting a foot in the door once but failed at? WHY? It would be a waste of resources.
