Hey

I'm wondering wich of this cpu's would be better for my build!
I'm making a lot of video editing and also some 3D editing in Maya/Cinema4D.

But I also play games quiet a lot, like BF4 or Crysis 3.

Xeon has no integrated GPU wich sounds great to be because I will never use it!
( btw, I won't be overclocking! )

So my questions are :)

1. Is xeon as good as i7 4770?
2. Is there something hidden under that lower cost?
3. I heared xeons are server cpu's, would that affect my performance in what I need?

Thanks :)

Solution
Its almost as good as the 4770, slightly less cache, and slightly lower clock speed, but essentially the same chip. Get it if you want to save some money over the 4770 :)

1) Almost.
2) No, just the points above
3) No, this xeon is more of a Workstation CPU, will be fine for gaming as its basically an i7.

Thanks :)
was a bit worried about getting it

Don't bother with that server thing, get the full-blooded 4770 -- I just got one and it's awesome.

Well thanks for dragging this thread up with that comment. FYI the Xeon 1230 v3 is almost exactly the same as the 4770, you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance.

Ah well that's as maybe because the server will be using ECC memory which will be slower than normal desktop non-ECC, so there's one bad point.

Look, this xeon isnt a server chip and doesnt require ECC memory.. Its pretty much exactly the same chip as the 4770...

OK but it has lower clock speed of 3.3GHz vs 4770 of 3.4GHz and a lower TDP of 80w vs 84w 4770, so performance will not quite be up to it.

Yeah, 100mhz difference. Tiny bit less performance (not even noticable) for a good saving of $$.

If someone really doesn't need the igp is the xeon a better alternative looking at price/performance..

Can you both please stop quoting each other since it adds nothing and it's really bothersome to read a thread like this.Just use the "post an answer" button.

The OP was debating which CPU to buy, a pseudo-4770 or a...4770.
From someone who has a 4770 I recommend this.

A few posts up you didnt know anything about the 1230 v3, and thought it would need ECC ram - The fact is, its 97% of the 4770 performance for 85% of the cost.

And there is nothing wrong with the 4770, its a great CPU but compared to the Xeon 1230 v3 its overpriced.

Good for you,but right now i'm at a pc with a q8200@3ghz that doesn't mean i'm going to recommend it to all people.

Using the word pseudo doesn't diminish the fact that the xeon is as good as the 4770 with only a 100mhz difference which are not going to make a hughe difference in performance..
The real difference is in the integrated graphics and the ts wasn't too concerned with that.
