Hi guys

I'm currently shopping for a gaming laptop and found a Korean brand laptop that claims to have Xeon E3-1231 z97 in it along with a 970m video card.

Now I've had quite a few laptops in my lifetime, but I've never seen a desktop based CPU inside one

Am I missing something or does Xeon E3-1231 z97 come in a laptop variety?

if it doesn't (and I assume it doesn't), how did they manage it and is it a legit purchase? Would it melt and burn after excessive gaming?

All in all, it sounds like an amazing purchase if that's true

The laptop is by HanSung Computers based in Korea and it's only available through online purchase from Korean version of Ebay, but the price is on par with Sager/Clevo and they seem to be the only ones with that CPU in it

I looked too and could not find anything either 🙁 If you are serious e-mail Clevo sales. I have always gotten decent e-mail responses when I contact manufacturers directly. They should be able to give you information and/or point you to good reviews. It's in their interest.
As far as I know the Xeon 1231 is not a low power chip (over 80W) and the z97 designation sounds like a motherboard. It's all about cooling solutions. If it can be kept cool, it will do fine. That will be a considerable challenge in a modern, slimish, laptop. Are you sure it is not an all-in-one?

Yup

Here's a link (it's in Korean though)

they have a whole series of laptops - 20 or so models and they all have that CPU

also, it's only 200$ over the price of a regular 4720hq cpu that other laptops have. it's essentially 1600$ish or so in total for 970m version and 2000$ for a 980m version. So would it be worth venturing in this direction or will this laptop suffer from low durability and potentially overheat?
How would they solve the fact that it needs so much more power than provided by the laptop?
