Hello everyone,

About 5 months ago, I built a new PC for myself with the Xeon E3-1231v3, but some things about it seem weird.

Firstly, when I completely stress out the CPU, the temps rise to a max of 54C. My cooler is a Cryorig H7, so no extreme performance there and the ambient temp is about 20C. If I look it up in other threads, the temp should rise to about 75C, so I dont know why it doesn't do that.

Secondly, the CPU is always running around 3,71Ghz, even at idle when its doing nothing.
Btw idle temps are about 30C.

I hope you can help me out with my questions. Thank You

54C is perfectly fine under load for temperature. Ideally the lower the better, not higher. Since you have a decent aftermarket cpu cooler, you will have a better cooling performance than the stock intel cpu cooler.
You may be running some application that is keeping the cpu at 3.7 Ghz or the settings within your OS's power options is preventing the cpu to go to idle clocks.

But I don't understand why it isn't going any higher than 54C, as if it seems like something isn't working so it doesn't produce a lot of heat.

Oh and I found out why my CPU was running 3,71Ghz all the time, it was in the power management. My ssd had set a performance profile.

Not sure why you are worried. Higher temps does not mean better performance.

I've used Cinebench R15 and Project Cars. Both didn't go higher than 54C. Oh and Aida64

Seems to be the same as mine, thank you for your results. There probably is nothing wrong with my CPU.

My score was 708

Agreed, cooler and ambient temps have an impact on cpu core temps. Many temps given for the xeon (since it's not an overclocking cpu) are using the stock cooler. A stock cooler at 24c won't give the same core temps as a cpu cooled with a decent 3rd party cooler and 20c ambient temps. Everything has to be fairly even for comparison purposes or it's apples and oranges.

Out of curiosity DonkeyOatie what were your ambient temps? (If you recall).

It's summer in Florida and the AC is set to 74F, but the register is quite close to my desk here, so the air temp is a little lower. You can also see in my signature that the CPU is in a mITX system with restricted air flow. Fitting the Pallas was an exercise in watchmaking.
