Hello everyone,

I am looking for a cpu upgrade for my motherboard P8H61-MX USB3 and I have seen that on aliexpress they sell the Intel Xeon e31245 V2 and the i7 3370 for a similar price.
Both cpu are listed on the cpu support list.

So here are my questions:

Do I need ecc ram for the xeon? I currently have 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Which is better for gaming?

Note that the cpu will be pared whit an amd 290x and that i don’t plan to overclock the cpu
Many thanks

Xeon has a 100MHz less in max. turbo core, but ingame this wouldn´t be recognized

ECC RAM is supported by the XEON but does support normal DDR3 RAM as well.

Both have grahpics module onboard

Both have a TDP of 77 Watt: same efficiency

get the cheaper one, be sure your motherboard´s BIOS is updated (flash inside BIOS using the integrated ASUS tool ez-flash)

I'd get the i7 3770. It's newer, faster, and uses less power. I'm not seeing why the Xeon is even being considered.

edit: I didn't take the 'v2' into account, my mistake. They are of similar age and generation. However, I'd still choose the i7. Unless a Xeon costs less, I don't see the advantage of buying one over a consumer CPU with the same capabilities.

Well the Xeon is 30€ cheaper than the intel i7, i still have doubts about the ram , about the cooling part wich one generates more heat? I heard that the xeon processors are much more efficcent than the consumer CPU
