I'm doing a x99 build mainly for media serving and transcoding and was looking at getting a E5-2670 or E5-2680 v3 ES chip off of Ebay. My question is about matching a Xeon processor with ram. Does running a Xeon cpu mean that I will have to remain at the 2133 threshold which would work fine, or can you run the higher XMP memory of 2666 and above? I'm torn between stock 2133 ECC memory or getting the faster clocked ram just for the general zippiness of it. It's not for a gaming pc. Thanks

Yeah, Xeon e5-2600 v3 can't support speeds greater than 2133mhz. It won't really matter as your would really hard pressed to tell the difference.
Thank you. After reading your post I did check benchmarks showing the differences from speeds ranging from 2133mhz to 3333mhz and the higher clock rate has a 3% at best gain on a very few applications. Definitely not worth it to me the difference in price and stability factor.
