Question Xeon E5 2666v3 vs i7 5930K ?

which one is better between these two processors in games and design programs, . in general use

Both are the same price

As with your previous post about the 1231 v3 or 2560 v2 Dual it all comes down to software. If the software is able to use as many cores as you can throw at it the 2666 v3 will be faster than the 5930K. However, if the software stops scaling from extra cores after 6 then the 5930k will be faster. Generally speaking in gaming the 5930k will be faster due to the higher clock rate.

In most games the i7 would be faster due to the higher base clock. Cyberpunk seemed to run ok on the Xeon though:

I can't comment on design programs, I don't know which your using and I don't use any myself. The Xeon is the more powerful CPU overall if you can make use of all 10 cores.

Given they share the same architecture and platform the best way to estimate it would be to go on clock speed. The exact model isn't listed on Intel's website, the closest is the E5-2660 v3 which has a base clock of 2.6Ghz. However according to Tech Power Up the base frequency of the E5-2666v3 is 2.9Ghz:

The base clock of the i7 5830K is 3.5Ghz, so assuming you have no intention of overclocking the i7 then about 20.69% faster. This isn't an exact science because there are some differences in memory latency and cache size between the CPU's. If it were me though I would go with the Xeon, it's the cooler CPU. I mean that in a figurative sense not a temperate one.

That's not correct, it's one of the most demanding games on PC. It will run on an FX8310 but not very well.

The FX-8310 which is a 4c/8t CPU with a 3.4GHz base & 4.3GHz boost clock was a decent gaming CPU back in 2012-2015. That said the FX-8310 is listed for Minimum Specification for Cyberpunk 2077.
