Hello everyone! My first post over here! Have been reading the forum for quite some time and decided to join 🙂

Ok, so i've got this Xeon e5-2683 v4 ES on ebay pretty cheap. Now i am looking for a compatible motherboard. I've stopped on this one ASRock X99 Extreme4 'cause it seems to be able to handle this CPU, particularly ES. However, i would like to know if any of you guys have any experience with what MBs can actually run this cpu and can share a friendly advice on a particular MB to choose.

Appreciate your assistance!

Why do you need so many cores? If gaming then you want more clock speed vs cores. A slower CPU with more cores is going to hurt you for gaming but it won't be too bad for stuff like video editing. If you do a lot of that kind of work then the Xeon might be right for you. It's all about having the right tool for the job. Any socket 2011 v3 that has been updated to support broadwell-e should work.

Yes, i know that buying ES is a lottery, however, i have decided that it is worth a try 🙂

I don't play games much, at least not the ones that are CPU hungry, just want to setup a configuration that would last and forget about the upgrades.

From what i have heard, not all x99 motherboards are compatible with ES CPUs, even with the latest BIOS. I just want to be 100% sure that the one i buy would support this CPU.

Thanks for the responses!
