xeon e5410 or i3 540 which is better

i currently own a 13 540 and intel dh55tc motherboard i am getting an xeon e5410 processor for 10$ is it worth it?

The i3 is a newer architecture with a higher clockspeed, I would say it is most likely the better chip. The only thing the Xeon has is 4 real cores though the i3 has hyperthreading which should make up the difference. The Xeon would also require a different motherboard as it's a socket LGA 771 chip while you have a LGA 1156 board.
