I bought E5440 on aliexpress and replaced it with my old pentium e5200. It also has mod sticker already. I started the pc and it stuck on POST.
Normally it must detect ram and sata.
My mobo is G31M-ES2L.

Yes that would be a problem, as Intel's desktop chipsets for Core 2 did not allow running the memory slower than the FSB. And the E5440's stock FSB is 333x4 = 1333MHz so it is crashing.

Fortunately you have voltage adjustments in the BIOS so can try overclocking the memory to 333. Just add +0.3v to "DDR2 overvoltage" for 2.1v. Hopefully the BIOS will automatically set timings at 6-6-6 as there aren't any adjustments for that.

Unless you have a faster stick of DDR2 you can borrow, you'll have to reinstall the E5200 to do this (which is 200x4 = 800MHz so only requires 200MHz DDR2-400).

Yes, the RAM voltage setting should persist through a CPU change. After the Xeon is running you can set 333 memory speed too, although that would be the minimum possible speed you can select anyway.

I switched DD2 voltage to +0.3v but same thing happening. Can I do something else?
