Hello guys, I have a quick question. So I'm considering buys an E5450 SLANQ CO for my old LGA 775 this one (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Intel-Xeon-E5450-SLANQ-CO-Processor-close-to-LGA775-Core-2-Quad-Q9650-CPU-works-on/32695631527.html?spm=2114.search0604.3.1.607b174ek1kIoV&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3_10065_10068_319_317_10696_10084_453_454_10083_10618_10304_10307_10820_10821_537_10302_536_10059_10884_10887_100031_321_322_10103,searchweb201603_51,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=b42c2215-c78b-4da0-881d-0bff73e97101-3&algo_pvid=b42c2215-c78b-4da0-881d-0bff73e97101) My question is, what do I have to do, like when I install it will it work, or I have to install something. My mother board is (asus p5ql pro) with the latest bios I think.

Not all LGA775 support the Xeon swap. It's mostly a chipset issue. Also the BIOS usually needs a mod to recognize the Xeon microcode.
All the info is here, including a list of tested motherboards.

The E5450 is a good choice because it's below the 95W limit many MB have. The X5460/5470 are 120W and can have issues due to that.

Assuming I've read your post correctly:
Motherboard: Asus P5QL PRO
CPU: Xeon E5450

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5QL_PRO/HelpDesk_CPU/

E5450 is not on the supported CPUs list.
The Xeon is not on the supported list because it is a 771 socket CPU that will be modified to fit a 775 board. I have a E5472 Quad running on one of my boards. It can be bought cheaper from china and works like a Quad Q9650, I got my E5472 already modified for $15 from china.

I know this is an old thread but I figured I would give it a shot.

I've been working on a friends computer that has an E5500 installed. I learned about the 771 Xeon chips working with the 775 platform. I ordered a modified E5450 from China. I installed it and it posts. It shows up properly in the bios but windows won't load. It goes to the window icon screen with the circle of dots but it locks up there. I reinstalled the old E5500 and it works properly. With the E5500 installed I installed the microcode for the 771. I believe I installed the proper code but I am not 100% sure. I believe windows should load even if the microcodes are not correct. I then tried to load windows from a USB drive to do a fresh install but that locked up as well. I have cleared the CMOS, reset the bios to defaults, changed every setting I can think of but nothing has worked. It is a Acer motherboard. It appears to be a G45T/43T - AM3V motherboard with 6 gb of DDR3 ram. 2x2gb sticks and 2x1gb sticks. According to what I have read the E5450 should be compatible. Since it does post and shows correctly in the bios I believe it is compatible. I also tried booting with only 1 stick of ram of 2gb installed but I got the same results.

Maybe the cpu is bad but that is unlikely since it does post. Unfortunately the motherboard doesn't have many options to tweak. I can't adjust voltage for example. I did find it odd that with the E5500, a dual core chip, the vcore is 1.265 in the bios. With the E5450 installed, a quad core, the voltage is only 1.12. That might be correct since the Xeon chips are usually better binned and require less voltage but that is the only thing I found odd in the bios.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated . I am basically out of ideas at this point.
