Hey, let's say if i wanted to play next gen cpu intensive games at 30+ fps without stutters, would this cpu work?

I've asked a similar question a while back, but i have an core2duo e8400 and i experience stutters, can XEON E5450=Q9650 handle next gen games at 30+ fps well? btw and my mobo doesn't support better and newer cpu than that.

I care about the graphics and i know that my E5450 might bottlenecking witht my gpu right now XFX 9800GT.

Which GPU will be perfect match with XEON E5450 = Q9650?

Thank you!

Q9650 will work very decent with most current games, it is a decent quad core CPU. You can get a MUCH faster card that your 9800GT with Q9650 - I used to have R9 280X with it, although the CPU was a bottleneck I could easily get very high framerates (in excess of 60 most of the time) in BF3 and BF4 with high details. I'd say any GPU up to R9 280 is OK, as long as your power supply is up to the task and make sure you crank up the details to use that GPU up to full potential. CPU limited games will still be above 30 fps most of the time.

thanks for your response, herrwizo. One thing I want to confirm that is Xeon E5450 will give the same performance as Q9650? I can get the xeon processor in a cheap price approx $35 where as the C2Q9650 costs me approx $90. I can convert the LGA 771 to LGA775.

If you can get that Core 2 E8400 Clocked high enough , it can find it's way through games meant to use newer architectures or 4 cores by shear clockspeed and brute force. Not unlike the Pentium G3258, which can be paired with high end gpus, the Core 2 E8400 was the choice quad cores from the same time.
But to answer in the form of a link, check out the results of this vid, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlEj3T77ovQ&list=PL8mG-RkN2uTyuEutQa79RZ0Q5u5gteUci&index=3

Yes, with the lga mod the xeon would perform just like a core 2 quad. However, branded desktops like HP, dell etc will not work with modded xeons. Hope this answers your question.

thanks everyone for their replies. I am sure that my motherboard will support the processor. I have a Asus P5K-VM which is not associated with any branded system like dell, hp etc.

I will defiantly buy the xeon e5450 processor. One thing more that which gpu would be the perfect match with my cpu? I am asking because I will sell out my 9800gt soon. I will have to buy another gpu in used condition. So what would you recommend me that which will not bottleneck with the cpu.

I agree with herwizzo 100%, you should be looking at the r9 280 level of performance.

If you're buying a used GPU, then look for any gpu up to
r9 280
r9 285
HD 7950
hd 7970
gtx 960
gtx 760
gtx 670

Assuming your psu can handle it :)

Anything much more powerful than the gpus listed would be a bottleneck for sure, but you can get something a little weaker if these are over budget.

I am still confused. I should give you the details what I actually need. I want to upgrade from 9800GT to any perfect match card with my E5450=Q9650 @3.0GHZ CPU having 1280x720 resolution for pc games put i want to ask if E5450=Q9650 is best bet for this new videos cards and which of these is best bet?
I want to hold this pc at least 1-2 years for pc games in 1280x720 resolution but i can to overclok at 3.4Ghz if is necesary

my pc would be E5450=Q9650+4GB DDR2 800Mhz+HDD 500Gb and Pc monitor 20" 720p resolution

I am just about to make the same upgrade as you are! From C2D E8400 to E5450 via LGA conversion! I just ordered the 30$ Xeon CPU today 😛
The only difference is that I already have a 600W Sirtec high-power PSU, and an OC GTX470. Even though, despite what anyone says, a good 450-500W PSU would suffice. I measured the Wattage at the wall socket in full load, and it peaked at 417W including the monitor and sound amp. So the system's real power (according to the efficiency ratio) is even less.
And I must say, that card is amazing and horribly bottlenecked by the C2D. I tested it on a firend's i5, against his 2gb GTX760. And old as it is, my 470 matched his card ~95% in any test we made! It can run any game to date on high settings @1680x1050, as long as the texture size doesn't go beyond its 1280mb vram. So I presume it actually is a perfect match for the e5450. So if you are going to change your GPU, I wouldn't go below a GTX 470, 570, 660Ti, 760.. (or ATI equivalent) etc.
P.S. I live in Eastern Europe, and a used, good quality 500-600W PSU is ~25$.

You might want to check your testing again, a gtx 760 outperforms even the gtx 480 by a significant amount.

Can you give me some information on how to find out about my mobo's processor support I want to buy an modded E5450 off ebay and the board currently has a Q8200.
