Xeon e5530 SLBF7 - suitable for gaming?

Hi,

I have the chance of getting a Xeon e5530 SLBF7 really cheap and was wondering if it will be suitable for gaming?

Are there gaming motherboards available for this CPU? What kind of RAM goes with it?

I wouldn't get the Xeon, it is very outdated and getting a motherboard for it will cost much more than it's worth even used. I suggest just going for something newer.

The Xeon e5530 is a server CPU, it requires very specific hardware and most commonly needs ECC registered memory. It is capable of gaming as you can here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epIlB49SNTI), but it needs a server motherboard unless you custom flash one (not recommended), and most of them aren't normal form factors.

That is on the fairly old side (Nehalem) so while it may be usable for gaming, I wouldn't recommend it, personally. You'd be looking for LG 1366 socket motherboards, which I believe is the X58 chipset.
