Are you sure your specific motherboard chipset supports that specific Xeon, even after the mod?
Not all do.

"crash sometimes' is the opposite of 'worked perfectly'.

Just because someone sold you all that together is no guarantee of it actually working.

according to this site it should work since it's tested and it works : http://www.delidded.com/lga-771-to-775-adapter/3/ i press CTRL+F pasted : GA-73PVM-S2H and i see it and this cpu it's listed

Then maybe the person who sold it to you did it wrong, or you have some other issue.

Did you upgrade bios microcode? In layman's terms microcodes are drivers for your CPU in Bios level.

I didn't see anybody mentioned it up there so I'll tell you how to do it. Specifics are up to you.

1) Download the latest Bios update for your motherboard.
2) Download Microcodes.
3) Modify the Bios update you downloaded using instructions in this website http://www.delidded.com/lga-771-xeon-microcode/
4) Finally update your Bios with the recently modified Bios update.
5) Should resolve almost every software related problems. But stress test it with Orthos (without any overclocking attempt of course) . If nothing happens in first half hour you probably resolved all your problems.

I had the same problems as you did with my GA-P35C-DS3R motherboard + Xeon X5460. After microcode update there was absolutely no problem at all. I hope it works for you too.

after alot of therads ive found that the cpu it's working ok and i have the microcodes : http://www.overclock.net/t/1431723/lightbox/post/26131922/id/3047238 in overclock.net i listed my problems and it's goind to be a hardware problem i think or bad driver ive moved here : https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/bsod/773af543-b4cf-4fe2-8502-08c4e2aa73be
